Aline with Principal Brad Campbell |
Career advisor and mentor Aline Lyons celebrated her 89th birthday surrounded by colleagues and friends at Emmaus Catholic College, Kemps Creek. With 43 years of teaching experience, Aline is valued and treasured by staff and students and has made significant contributions to the school community since coming to Emmaus in 1999.
Surprising Aline with a morning tea in her honour, Principal Brad Campbell led staff in wishing her a happy birthday.
Brad said that Aline is a cherished member of the school community still working one day a week as publicity writer and photographer. Aline has worked tirelessly guiding students and she wrote the history of the school in the book Twenty Years Along the Road: An Emmaus Journey.
Aline says the friendships and sense of community at Emmaus has kept her coming back to work well past retirement age.
‘I’m thrilled and overwhelmed to be surprised with a celebration honouring 89 years of age and 43 years of teaching,’ said Aline. ‘I enjoy working with students and it’s such a compliment when former students tell me that my advice has helped them achieve a career they’re proud of.’
‘My driving motivation is a passion for young people and to help them achieve their potential,’ Aline said.
