Vietnam Veterans Day is held on the anniversary of the Battle of Long Tan, fought on 18th August, 1966, in a rubber plantation near the village of Long Tan in Vietnam. During this battle, 17 Australians were killed, and 25 were wounded. On Monday 18th August, Angelina D, Stella C, Claudia D, Nicole T, Tiannah M and Matilda H (Year 11) proudly attended a Vietnam Veterans Commemorative Service at St Marys Diggers Club, accompanied by Mr O’Connell, Mr Leahy and Mrs Nevin. We laid a wreath in their honour and reflected on the bravery, resilience, and sacrifice of our Vietnam veterans. 💐 Let us ensure their stories are told, their service is honoured, and their legacy lives on. 🌟 STUDENT SPOTLIGHT 🌟 Congratulations to Riana K, Bianca M and Tiana K (Year 11) who were accepted into transition to university programs at Australian Catholic University (ACU). 🤩🎉 Riana was accepted into ACU’s ‘Step-Up in Exercise and Sports Science’ program, where she studied one university unit, obtaining a head start into university and developing crucial study skills. Riana will continue with the program, aspiring to undertake a Degree in Exercise and Sports Science. 🏃✨ Bianca was accepted into ACU’s ‘Step-Up in Nursing and Midwifery’ program, where she also studied one university unit and will soon be undertaking a second unit. Bianca has advanced her knowledge about nursing and midwifery, and aspires to enter the healthcare industry in the future. 🩺👏 Tiana was accepted into ACU’s ‘Step-Up into Teaching’ program, where she will soon undertake two education units. Once passed, she will be given a conditional offer to study a Bachelor of Education at ACU. 🧑🏫 🙌 We are very proud of Riana, Bianca and Tiana who are working hard towards achieving their long-term career goals - keep up the great work! 😄 #EmmausCatholicCollege #AustralianCatholicUniversity #ACU #Year11StepUp

Recently, a number of Year 8 students, accompanied by Ms Li, were invited to represent Emmaus at the ‘Sing for Peace, Voice the Future’ Chinese Learning Celebration at the Chinese Consulate-General in Sydney. 👏 The event united over 300 students and teachers from over 20 schools in Sydney. One of the highlights was the incredible Sichuan Opera Face-Changing performance and the lion dance from Panyu. 🇨🇳🪭 Our students enjoyed an array of performances from other schools, cultural activities such as trying on Hanfu (traditional Chinese clothing), playing the ancient Touhu (pitch-pot) game, practicing calligraphy and enjoying a buffet of traditional foods. 🍜🥟 Our Year 8 students represented our College proudly, observing respectfully, engaging in cultural activities and politely mingling with other people. ☺️

⭐ LEARNING AT EMMAUS 📚 Year 11 Ancient History students have been learning about the burial and funerary customs in Ancient Egypt, learning about the different gods, rituals and items associated with the process. 📖 Students applied their learning by undertaking the mummification process and creating a mini tomb with the relevant paintings and items that occurred during the process. ⭐ FEAST OF THE ASSUMPTION ✝️ This morning, we celebrated the Feast of the Assumption with a College mass, led by Father Dave. In partnership with the Huaxia Chinese School, Emmaus welcomed 46 Chinese students across Years 7-10! 😁🇨🇳 This was an amazing opportunity, not only for the Chinese students to immerse themselves in our community, but for our students to learn about Chinese culture, traditions and education. Chinese students were farewelled with an Aussie barbecue and an exchange of gifts between Emmaus and the Huaxia Chinese School. 🎁✨ We look forward to continuing our partnership with the Huaxia Chinese School to enhance the educational and cross-cultural opportunities for both our students and the Chinese students. 🙌

Recently, our incredible Year 11 students, Lissa A, Angelina D, Chase I, Claudia D, Chelsy M and Nicole T joined Mr Squires and Miss Ross on the Vinnies Van shift, where they served food, drinks and clothes to those in need across Mount Druitt and Parramatta. 🥪👕 Vinnies Van is a fantastic initiative run by Vinnies Australia. Our students and staff members participate in this program as part of our College’s commitment to social justice, embodying our College pillars of faith, hospitality and service. ❤️💙 Well done to our Faith in Action team - keep up the great work! 👏 #VinniesVan #VinniesNSW #EmmausCatholicCollege
