A day where music students gather is almost a guarantee of pleasant fellowship.

The recent Year 12 Music Day, ‘Captivate HSC Workshop’ proved to be an excellent learning experience for Emmaus Catholic College students Rochelle Christensen and Cassandra Camacho.  Together with other students from the Emmaus Year 12 group (cohort), Rochelle and Cassandra attended the one day sessions at Xavier College.

“It really was a great experience because the day was so well planned”,  said Rochelle. “We were able to explore aspects of performance, composition and aural skills”.

“I liked the positive atmosphere and spirit of encouragement”, said Cassandra.  “We had HSC Music Markers on the panel there to help us.  They gave realistic expectations for us as we plan our months ahead to the 2016 HSC”.

Rochelle is an experienced vocalist and keen student. “Though my guitar playing needs work!”, she admitted.  At the Captivate Day she performed for an audience of students from several schools in the Parramatta Diocese.  “And of course”, she added, “the two HSC Music Markers sat in that audience”.

Appreciating the opportunity, Rochelle welcomed comments on her areas of strength and suggestions for improvement.

Cassandra is also a vocalist and found the day’s program very practical.  “I was pleased to get advice about how much daily practice I should be doing, and how to prepare for both the practical and theory aspects of the HSC Music exams”, she said.

The students added that Emmaus Catholic College provides many opportunities for participation in musical events such as “Carols in the Grove”, liturgies and school assemblies.  They expressed appreciation for Emmaus Music Teacher Mr Luke Connolly who accompanied them to the Captivate HSC Music Workshop.
