Professional Development & New scheme:

At Emmaus Catholic College we are committed to the professional development of our staff. We operate Professional Learning Communities (PLCs) on a rotation basis on Wednesday mornings. During this time we identify individual and group learning goals and use Timperley’s inquiry cycle to target ways of improving student learning. By working in smaller groups we are able to work collaboratively to ensure that the learning we do as a staff directly impacts on our teaching practice and enhances student outcomes. We also involve ourselves in whole school initiatives focusing on the needs of our students. The two major focus areas for 2017 are feedback and differentiation.

New Scheme teachers are supported by the College. They are mentored by the Leader of Learning and guided through the accreditation process by a member of the College Leadership Team. The group meets once a term to focus on a specific standard. During the initial meeting we complete some professional learning on the standard as a group. Each individual teacher then discusses how they will meet this standard and then they are observed and provided with feedback. During this process teachers are able to collect evidence to use for the accreditation process.
